My Point of View!

The Toy American Eskimo is just plainly an awesome dog! The things that we have done together and experienced in his 4.5 years are great! We have bonded closely!!!

He is very loving and loyal to his Mom! What I have found out is that if the dog is in a "couple" environment, and the dog is male, he bonds better with the female and visa versa! Don't get me wrong, he definitely loves dad, it's just he "IS" Mom's baby!

Bailey follows me everywhere! I mean everywhere! He is my shadow 100%!!! He does like to eat with you and for you to share with him! He will nudge your arm or try to tell you to share with him if you aren't. He actually whines and yells at you if you don't!

He doesn't like to be in the car by himself when we go into stores that won't allow pets. He cries (really loud!) and is always standing up looking out the window for us when we are on our way out. I always try to take him with me. I have a special kind of carrying pouch for him, so I can take him with me wherever we go, except for the stores that aren't animal friendly!

Here I am scopin' everything out……..waiting for Mom & Dad………

His hearing is excellent! He can here you from a mile away, but still can have selective hearing!!! We did go through 7 weeks of "Puppy Training" and did very well. But, when he decides he is too interested in something at that time, he definitely has selective hearing!

He is excellent with small kids, and adores them chasing him around, but he definately doesn't like being hurt. He does like chasing the kids and just having a bunch of fun!

As far as keeping his fur clean, it is just amazingly simple! (Talking from experience,) He is pure white, and has gone into pouring down rain. He loves to run, and when he is ready to go into the house he is pure black from playing in the mud! His hair doesn't hold any type of dirt! I must say any kind of dirt does fall off and is fairly easy to keep clean!

Giving him a bath is simple. I just put him in the kitchen sink and give him a good scrub up when he gets all dirty like that! His hair doesn't mat up, and he really isn't a high maintenance dog for having long hair.... Although, I do have to say, I take him to his "Beauty Salon" every 2 weeks.

Jane and John Dunn at "The Grooming Post" do such an excellent job on keeping his nails manicured, ears cleaned out, blow drying and brushing his hair! He never gets haircuts, because with his breed you don't need to cut the fur.

He is very protective of his "territory" including Mom and Dad or anyone else in the family. He definately lets you know when you have a visitor! They are yappers…but, aren't as bad as other small dogs that I've seen! You definitely have to tell him to shush once in a while! But, to be honest with you...his barking really isn't that bad! It's no worse than a little baby crying....his barking doesn't bother me! I hardly ever notice....he's just talking as far as I'm concerned!!!

As far as potty training goes, I am going to be honest…it really took about a good 8 months for him to learn how to hold it in the middle of the night, and day while we are at work. It's something you really need to be gentle and patient with.

They do have very sensitive personalities and you can hurt his feelings fairly easy. They do have the mentality of a 2 year old, and it continuously grows, as he gets older.I have a rule in my home....no yelling at the kids! They are sensitive too!

He loves to go outside and run and take long walks. As you know, small dogs are always high strung. But, to be honest, he isn't that high strung! He definitely loves to play and has 2 full toy boxes of just different teddy bears and 'Beanie Babies'!

He does have the "Napoleon complex". A few months back, he did attack a Rottweiler. He thinks that he is a big dog, and can kick some doggy butt! But, in all truth…..he puts up a good front! Please don't get me wrong, he is very even tempered. But, when he sees another dog in the car, he does growl and does try to get out the window to kick some doggy butt!

Bailey is also very loving and has a way about him that does melt my heart! When it is bedtime, he does like to play for a little bit and then he will go under the bed to his own "swingin' bachelor's pad" and catch some zzzzzzzs'. Luckily for us, we have now gotten him to where he doesn't wake us up in the middle of the night anymore to go potty. I was taking him about 2 times each night.

And also as far as having this breed with other pets, well….just take a look at the pictures! He gets along very well with both of my cats and my other dog.

I hope that maybe I have helped someone out there who had the same question's I did before I bought this breed…. and if I helped anyone…then I feel like I have met my goal!

All I have to say is…..I absolutely love the dog and the breed and what they are all about and highly recommend them!

Thanks so much!
